German tape manufacturer Monta Klebebandwerk GmbH has developed a self-adhesive tape based on industrial plastic waste.

The new tape Monta reTec 831 has a natural rubber adhesive designed to seal medium to heavy boxes. The film backing is made entirely from European Post-Industrial Recycling (PIR).

The company stated that, therefore, the carbon footprint of the raw materials used is 33% lower than that of traditional BOPP plastic tape.

Monta's solution aims to give new life to polypropylene waste that may have previously been discarded.

At the film manufacturer's factory, the waste is processed into post-industry recycled polypropylene and used as a carrier for monta reTec 831 tape.

Monta then coats this carrier with a natural rubber adhesive, which is said to meet technical requirements even on difficult surfaces or extreme environments (such as in deep-frozen areas).

In terms of disposal, the company stated that well-known paper and cardboard manufacturers and recycling service providers have confirmed to it that tapes such as monta reTec 831 are completely separated from the cardboard and will not interfere with the cardboard recycling process.

As of last month, Monta has been compensating for the carbon dioxide emissions of all of its Greenline tapes by supporting recognized climate protection projects that meet international standards.
